StarTeam CPC v13 64x on Windows 8

This question is answered

For anyone who has tried to install StarTeam CPC on Windows 8, you'll get

The Application has Unexpectedly Quit. - ZeroGu3: Windows DLL failed to load.

After a bit of digging it looks like InstallAnywhere (the installer application) requires updating to support Windows 8.

A workaround to get CPC installed and working on Windows 8 can be done by the following.
(Please note that I am a customer and have not fully tested the functionality on this and it may work 100%)

  • Install sdkruntime-130-win64.exe on your Windows8 machine (this installs ok).
  • Install cpclient-130-win64.exe on another machine.
  • Copy the Java and StarTeam Cross-Platform Client 13.0 folders to your Windows 8 machine.
  • Double click/create shortcuts to the StarTeamJRE.stJava file within the StarTeam install folder.
At a first glance it looks like StarTeam, Compare and Admin tools works - although you have to enter your password each time as I haven't worked out how to load the toolbar application.

  • Hi Adrian

Thanks for updating the community on your workaround.

At the moment StarTeam is not fully certified on Win8 but this is on the backlog for future versions where we will iron out these install issues.

    Thanks, David

  • To update this post, I would like to inform our customers that we are targeting the November 2013 release of 14.0 CPC to provide full support for Windows 8.

The above workaround has been tested by technical support and does work, the only caveat being that the StarTeam ToolBar does not install. However, to get the StarTeam ToolBar to run on Windows 8 you need to install on a supported OS and then copy the full installation folder over onto the Windows 8 machine. After this copy you will need to create two registry keys as detailed below:

    32-bit system:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Borland\StarTeam Toolbar]"CurrentVersion"="13.0"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Borland\StarTeam Toolbar\13.0] "Cmd"="C:\\Program Files\\Borland\\StarTeam Toolbar\\SBToolbar.exe"

    64-bit system:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Borland\StarTeam Toolbar]"CurrentVersion"="13.0"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Borland\StarTeam Toolbar\13.0]"Cmd"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Borland\\StarTeam Toolbar\\SBToolbar.exe"

Now when you launch the CPC it will automatically start the ToolBar and you can cache your logons
