Micro Focus proudly announces: Silk Performer 17.5 is released! If you already use Silk Performer and you have a maintenance contract, you can upgrade to Silk Performer 17.5 for free.

Silk Performer is the one stop performance testing tool, which takes pressure from you by adding load to your application. Silk Performer allows you to create realistic load tests with up to hundreds of thousands of virtual users running across a broad range of enterprise application environments, including mobile and the latest web 2.0 technologies.

Silk Performer once again introduces significant enhancements with version 17.5. Here's an overview of the feature highlights:

Highlights of Silk Performer 17.5

Responsive Web Design Testing

Conventional websites are typically built to be accessed through a usual desktop computer. But today, users access websites and web applications not only through desktop computers but through a variety of devices like smartphones or tablets. This is why websites have become responsive - they adapt their layout and even content to the resolution and orientation of an end user's device. This makes using the websites extremely handy and straightforward. But it also means that testing such a website becomes a challenge.

Silk Performer 17.5 introduces a new analysis feature to support you in testing responsive websites: Once the analysis run is started and completed, Silk Performer will display a Page Analysis Summary page, which shows the appearance of the analyzed website on a desktop screen, a tablet, and a smartphone. Also, Silk Performer shows you a chart with all detected media queries of the website. The Page Analysis report can be a good and solid foundation for decisions on which resolutions and which end user devices you should consider for testing.

TrueLog Explorer Enhancements

Depending on the application you're testing, TrueLogs can quickly become huge and confusing. To help you to stay on top of things and to keep TrueLog trees short and clear, Silk Performer 17.5 introduces a new advanced filter. It provides a variety of settings, which allow you to show or hide nodes depending on their name and type. If you often work with large TrueLogs, the new TrueLog filter will be especially beneficial to you.

Also, TrueLog Explorer now provides a new Binary view for the Response tab. When TrueLog Explorer cannot render the received data, it will be displayed in the binary view. This view also provides the great benefit that you can download the data to your disk. If, for example, the received data is a video file that cannot be viewed in TrueLog Explorer, you can still access the data and download it to view the video with an external player.

Monitoring Workflow

Alongside the Simple Workflow Bar and the Full Workflow Bar, Silk Performer now also provides a Monitoring Workflow Bar. It consists of four steps, or four buttons. The Upload Project button allows you to upload your Silk Performer projects to Silk Performance Manager and to easily reuse your Silk Performer scripts as monitors.

Silk Performance Manager is a new application performance monitoring tool that allows you to reuse script assets from functional and load testing for active application and infrastructure monitoring purposes.

Improved Scalability for UI-based Replay Technologies

For UI-based technologies such as browser-driven web or SAPGUI, Silk Performer now allows you to distribute virtual users over several Windows sessions and therefore make better use from the resources of powerful hardware.

Usability and other Enhancements

Silk Performer again introduces a number of usability enhancements like a reduced size of quantile files or extended parameters for a number of BDL functions. Special emphasis should be placed on the new recovery feature for load tests results: If a load test fails because the controller loses connection to an agent, Silk Performer now allows you to recover the lost result parts and to rebuild a valid results set. The recovery workflow can be used for on-premise and cloud load tests.

Silk Performer 17.5 also introduces a new licensing model called online licensing. With the help of online licensing you can purchase licenses with Micro Focus credits from your CloudBurst account. This can be especially useful if you need additional virtual users on short notice, or you unexpectedly require more virtual users for just a few load tests, or you require an unusually large amount of virtual users for a limited period of time. In any case, online licensing is an easy and quick way for you to top up your virtual user licenses with your CloudBurst account.
