How to send in the AccuRev 4.x metadata?

PROBLEM/ABSTRACT:
Sometimes Support needs the metadata from the AccuRev server to help reproduce or fix issues. Support will ask for the metadata in these situations.

So what is needed and how can it be sent in?

The below instructions are for AccuRev servers that need to be shutdown to retrieve the metadata. This is when the current backup utility cannot copy files that are open for write access.

SOLUTION:
Please log into the server and:

UNIX INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Stop the AccuRev server process
2) cd to your storage directory (default location is .../accurev/storage/ )
3) tar and then gzip the site_slice directory:
tar -cf site_slice.tar site_slice
gzip site_slice.tar
4) cd to your depots directory, the default location is .../accurev/storage/depots (you can run 'accurev show slices' to find the location)
5) tar and then gzip the depot 'except' the data directory. The data directory IS YOUR SOURCE CODE, please do not send it to us.
Example: if you had a depot named ACME and it was located here: .../accurev/storage/depots/ACME
cd .../accurev/storage/depots
tar -cf ACME.tar `/bin/ls -d ACME/* | grep -v ACME/data`
gzip ACME.tar
6) Re-start the AccuRev server process

WINDOWS INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Stop the AccuRev Server
2) cd to your site_slice directory (default location is .../accurev/storage/site_slice)
3) zip the site_slice directory
4) cd to your depots directory, the default location is .../accurev/storage/depots (you can run accurev show slices to find the location)
5) for the depot in question, cd into that directory
6) zip the depot-name 'except' the data directory. THIS IS YOUR SOURCE CODE, please do not send it to us
7) Re-start the AccuRev server

Below are the instructions that can be used if the AccuRev service needs to stay running. The AccuRev site_slice and depots directory must be copied with a utility that can copy files that are open for write.

WINDOWS INSTRUCTIONS:

1)Open a command prompt and run the following command: 'accurev backup mark'
2) cd to your site_slice directory (default location is .../accurev/storage/site_slice) and copy the site_slice directory to a temporary location, making sure that the copy utility can copy files that are open for write access.
3) zip the site_slice directory
4) cd to your depots directory, the default location is .../accurev/storage/depots (you can run 'accurev show slices' to find the location).
5) for the depot in question, cd into that directory and copy that depot and associated files into a temporary location, making sure that the copy utility can copy files that are open for write access.
6) zip the depot-name 'except' the data directory. THIS IS YOUR SOURCE CODE, please do not send it to us.

UNIX INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Open a terminal and run the following command: 'accurev backup mark'.
2) With a copy utility that can copy files that are open for write access, copy your site_slice directory (default location is .../accurev/storage/site_slice) to a temporary location.
3) tar and then gzip the site_slice directory
tar -cvf site_slice.tar . (don't forget the '.')
4) cd to your depots directory, the default location is .../accurev/storage/depots (you can run 'accurev show slices' to find the location)
5) for the depot in question, cd into that directory and copy that depot and associated files into a temporary location, making sure that the copy utility can copy files that are open for write access.
6) tar and gzip the depot-name 'except' the data directory. THIS IS YOUR SOURCE CODE, please do not send it to us.

Example: if you had a depot named ACME and it was located here: .../accurev/storage/depots/ACME
cd .../accurev/storage/depots
tar -cf ACME.tar `/bin/ls -d ACME/* | grep -v ACME/data`
gzip ACME.tar

7) gzip both files:
gzip site_slice.tar ACME.tar

Please send in both the site_slice and depot zipped files. Contact AccuRev support for instructions on sending us your meta-data.
