Web script debugging in a 64-bit operating system

This article explains a workaround for Web Scripting Performance and Coverage from the utilities menu.

Problem:

We are unable to debug our web scripts via Coverage Analysis or Performance Analysis in a 64-bit operating system. Even though 64-bit OS is supported, the default browser (IE) launched is a 64 bit-application which cannot be hooked into at this time. In a 64 bit OS the default Internet Explorer launched from the Visual Studio IDE is 64 bit, therefore the injector cannot inject into it. What are the shortcuts for Web Scripting Performance and Coverage from the utilities menu also point to the 64 bit version of IE?

Resolution:

For 64 bit Script Debugging from the Visual Studio IDE please perform the following tasks:
  1. Right mouse click on the default Start Page for the project and choose Browse With….
  2. From the browse dialog choose Add…
  3. Browse and select the 32 bit version of Internet Explorer <install drive>\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
  4. Click Set as Default.

For the shortcuts to Web Script Performance and Coverage from the utilities menu go to: Start Menu > Programs > Compuware > DevPartner Studio > Utilities > Right-Click Properties for Web Script Coverage / Web Script Performance. The target needs to point to the 32 bit version of the Internet Explorer:

C:\Program Files(x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
