Unable to append to the license path

This article explains what to do if when trying to configure a license, an error message is displayed saying the application was unable to append to the license path.

Problem:

When adding a license file on a system running the DLM license manager, an error message appears which indicates that the application could not append the license to the license path. Why is this?

Resolution:

Check the C:\documents and settings\all users\.compuware folder. That folder may somehow have become a file. Stop the license service (if it is running), rename that file and restart the license service and then start DLM. A new .compuware folder will automatically be created. Try to add the license file again through DLM.
