HOW TO: Configure multiple copies of CodeReview to use a shared Rules Database

Problem:

How do I configure multiple copies of CodeReview to use a shared Rules Database?

Resolution:

1) Install CodeReview on the system intended to store and the shared database.  When you see the 'Select Components' screen, make sure the Rules Database option is checked.  When installation is complete, you can use the Rules Editor in the standalone version of CodeReview to customize your database to suit your coding standards.

2) Proceed to install CodeReview on all other systems.  When you see the 'Select Components' screen, make sure the Rules Database option is NOT checked.

3) At the end of the install process, choose to 'Run CodeReview Now'.  The CodeReview standalone application will launch and prompt you to find the CodeReview rules database.  At the next screen, click the Browse button next to the edit control labeled 'Path to the CodeReview rules database'.  Navigate to the directory holding the shared rules database (located in the CodeReview folder). Select the file named 'Nmcrdb.mdb' and press Open.  This will update the path to the rules database.  Press OK to close the CodeReview Preferences dialog and save your changes.

As a note, the CodeReview VB Add-In first looks for the database located on the path contained in the registry key MyComputer/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE

uMega\CodeReview\Database Path.  Failing to find the database here, it will look for it in the DatabasePath located in the file vbreview.ini, located in the CodeReview directory.  For this reason, you must set the path to the database in the standalone application BEFORE running VB, or else the Add-in will not load properly.
