Problems with include directories/ directory for vdw.lib/vdw_wdm.lib

Problem:

Visual Studio gives me an error that it cannot find any of the DDK include files.  Am I missing an include directory?

or

Visual Studio can't find vdw.lib/vdw_wdm.lib even though I already built the library.

Resolution:

There are two environment variables, CPU, and BASEDIR that are usually defined during the DriverWorks install.

BASEDIR defines the DDK root directory such as 'D:\DDK'

CPU defines the type of platform you want to build the driver for.  This should usually be 'i386'.

For Windows NT or 2000:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties".  Select the "Environment" tab.  Type in the variables.  For example:

Variable:BASEDIR

Value:D:\DDK

The select Set, and press OK.  Restart Visual Studio, and it should find the new variables.

For Windows 95/98:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open Autoexec.bat located in your root directory and add the two variables:

SET CPU=i386

SET BASEDIR=C:\98DDK

Restart the computer.
