Release Notes for Compuware DevCenter FairCom Server (readme.txt)

Resolution:

Window NT FairCom Server

The FairCom Server located in the \server\Windownt directory may be

started as a standard binary executable, or as a special NT service.

INSTALLING THE FAIRCOM NT SERVER AS A SERVICE

There are two programs that are used to install and execute the FairCom

server as a service under NT, ctntinst.exe and ctntserv.exe.

Ctntserv -- This program is used by the NT SERVICE ADMINISTRATOR to start

and stop the FairCom  Server and must reside in the directory along with

the FairCom Server.

Ctntinst -- This is the installation program which handles the job of

installing and removing the FairCom SERVICE.   The syntax for installing

the service is:

       Ctntinst d:\faircom\server

The argument to 'ctntinst',  'd:\faircom\server' represents the directory

where the FairCom Server resides.  There are three (3) other items that

must reside in the directory that you provide to 'ctntinst'.

1. A copy of ctstop.exe used for shutting down the SERVER when you stop or

suspend the SERVICE.

2. A text file containing the responses to ctstop.exe that the service

manager can pipe as input to 'ctstop.exe' when it is executed.  A typical

'ctstop.key' which provides answers to the following prompts.

Enter Administrator  Password:       ADMIN

Enter Optional Server name:

     FAIRCOMS

Enter Server Shutdown delay:

There will be another prompt if active users are attached.

A typical 'ctstop.key' for the above example would consist of a

four (4) line text file :

ADMIN

FAIRCOMS

<BLANK LINE>

y

Each line is terminated with a newline as it would be in

a text editor.

3. A copy of  'ctntserv.exe' which is used by the NT SERVICE

ADMINISTRATOR to START and STOP the FairCom SERVICE.

After you have executed 'ctntinst' and made sure that all the necessary

files are in the SERVER directory you are ready to start the FairCom

Server as a SERVICE under NT. Use the  SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR icon in the

CONTROL PANEL to manage the FairCom Service.
