Problem:

How to set up and configure multiple instances of WAS with DPJ 3.0.3

Resolution:

Using the Network Deployment Manager, you can create multiple instances. For example we have 5 instances.

During creation of instances using the Network Deployment Manager, name the 1st instance Instance1. Name the 2nd instance is like Instance2. ....etc

Using or example on AIX, the multiple instances are created as:

opt/WS5.0/appserver/..../Instance1

opt/WS5.0/appserver/..../Instance2

opt/WS5.0/appserver/..../Instance3

opt/WS5.0/appserver/..../Instance4

opt/WS5.0/appserver/..../Instance5

After installing DPJ on the AIX machine where the WAS instances were created. Invoke the DPJAdmin utility, you will get a GUI box. Select WebSphere version and try to create a configuration file. The Configuration name will be WASinstance1. You will provide the install Path of the Appserver up to opt/WS5.0/appserver. Once you select this, DPJ is smart enough to find out how many instances are created and it will pop up those instances on Server box of DPJAdmin GUI. For Instance 1, we will select Instance1 in server box.

For 1st instance DPJ configuration will be:

Configuration name: WASinstance1

Install dirctory:opt/WS5.0/appserver

Server:Instance1

For 2nd instance DPJ configuration will be:

Configuration name: WASinstance2

Install dirctory:opt/WS5.0/appserver

Server:Instance2

.

.

.

For 5th instance DPJ configuration will be:

Configuration name: WASinstance5

Install dirctory:opt/WS5.0/appserver

Server:Instance5

Try to connect DPJ remotely from any PC to AIX machine using http://<IPADDOFAIXBOX>:21578/UI

From the DPJ browser, go to the Application Server Testing tab and then you will able to see all the configurations that you created using DPJAdmin. You should see WASInstance1 to WASInstance5 there.

You can start WASInstance1, It will start Instance1 of WAS app server.
