Creating Reconcile SQL Server Databases



How do I Create SQL Server Databases for Reconcile?


Perform these series of steps:

  1. Insure that MSSQL SERVER is running.
  2. Open the SQL Server Enterprise Manager Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 > Enterprise Manager.
  3. Open the Tree so that the you have the Databases folder highlighted .
  4. Right-Mouse click on the Database node.
  5. Click New Database in the menu item.
  6. On the General tab enter the name that you want to call the Reconcile database (We suggest you prefix the database name with the word Reconcile). Click OK.

    Your new Reconcile database should now be listed under the Databases node of SQL Server Enterprise Manager.

  7. Close the SQL Server Enterprise Manager Window .

Create the SQL Server ODBC Source

  1. Open the ODBC Data Source window Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Data Source (ODBC).
  2. Click either the User, DSN or System DSN tab.
  3. Click the Add button.
  4. Scroll to the SQL Server entry and click it.
  5. Click Finish.
  6. In the Name field, we suggest you use the name you used to name the SQL Server database you just created.
  7. Set Server field to Local or name the server that hosts your database.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Check the Change the default database to checkbox.
  10. Select SQL server database you just created.
  11. Accept remaining defaults and click Next.
  12. Leave this window with the defaults settings. Click Next.
  13. Click the Test Data Source button to test the connection. If connection was successfully made, click OK.
  14. Click OK.

    Your SQL Database ODBC source should now be listed under either the "User DSN" or "System DSN" tab depending upon which one you selected in Step 2.

Initialize the Reconcile SQL Server Database

  1. Start the Reconcile Database Administrator Start > Programs > Compuware > Reconcile > Database Administrator. Click Next.
  2. Click Microsoft SQL Server (Suggestion: Leave the "Include Demo project and all related files" Checked). Click Next.
  3. Select the name of the SQL Server ODBC Data Source you just created. Click Next.
  4. Specify the name of the directory where you want the Reconcile project information stored. Click Next.
  5. Click Finish. Click OK.

Test the Reconcile SQL Server Database

  1. Open Reconcile Start > Programs > Compuware > Reconcile.
  2. Select the name of the SQL Server database you just created.
  3. Enter "admin" in the Password field. Click OK.

    The Reconcile window should be displayed to you.

  4. Click the Help > About Compuware Reconcile menu item.
  5. Verify that the Server Type field is "SQL Server".
