SNMP resource monitoring

I have a question about HP LoadRunner version 12.1 SNMP software support for monitoring server utilization while conducting the test (Linux and/or Windows):

- What version of SNMP is supported in HP LoadRunner (version 1, 2, and/or 3)?
    - If version 3 is supported can it be configured as a preferred version.
- Is authentication over SNMP supported?
- How can the community string for SNMP be customized / defined?

  • Hello,

    SNMP monitor is very old monitor and don't have any significant update since 2004. Testing of monitor is also formal and only test against built-in Windows SNMP service provided. So answers will be not full and based on quick analysis of sources.

    - What version of SNMP is supported in HP LoadRunner (version 1, 2, and/or 3)?

    According to LR 12.01PAM following versions are supported:

    • Any device that is SNMP compliant
    • Supports SNMP 1
    • Supports SNMP 3 for backwards compatibility only

     - If version 3 is supported can it be configured as a preferred version.

    There is no sign of such cofiguration.

    - Is authentication over SNMP supported?

    It looks like not.

    - How can the community string for SNMP be customized / defined?

    There is SNMP configuration file snmp.cfg in <LR>\dat\monitors folder. See section [cm_snmp_mon] for configurable properties. By default, this section looks like

    [cm_snmp_mon]
    ;port=
    SNMP_root_OID=1.3.6.1
    SNMP_root_name=Internet
    SNMP_agent_name=SNMP
    ;SNMP_community_name=

    In priciple, SNMP_community_name property exists, but it is commented and there is no sign of using this property in sources. So most probably it is not used.
