  • Hi ,

Apart from J2EE & .Net diagnostics which comes in as a separate package you could see all the list of monitors in the Controller.

All you need to do it to configure them for your needs.

Eg:  Unix resources monitoring, throughput, Websphere, Oracle etc.

Refer the User guide for settings

  • Hi Srinivas,

We are using the below  listed  servers

    1.Databases :  Sql Server 2008.

    2.JBoss

    3.Apache

Could you please clarify me  on the below questions in detail

    1) I have to monitor Jboss server ( UNIX) ,Sql Server(Windows Server)

For that what I did is, choosen the System Resources(UNIX) and entered

Machine name as :csqffapp03 ; Platform  as : UNIX

a)Did I choosed correct monitor? What I mean to say is System Resource is right monitor  for Jboss(UNIX)

b)If not, whta is purpose of System Resources?

c)If so ,When I  choose OK ,I got the error(see the attached screenshot)

d)Do I need to do or configure on Jboss(UNIX) machine

2)I choose Sql monitor from the Database, which is correct

     I entered

Machine name as :csqsql2008 ; Platform  as : Windows Server

a)Then, even though I entered the Platform as Windows Server , by default LR is taking the Platform as WIN2003

Is WIN2003 compatible with Windows Server?

b)Graph shows successfully without giving  any errors(see attached screenshots)

c)By default,Load Runner monitors Sql Server  Right? What I mean to say is,  I need not to configure on Windows Server machine Right?

    Please advise me!

    Thanks,

    Raj

  • Verified Answer

    Hi Dude,

I have very quick question for you...Unix is intalled in your machinces ,If yes you follow the below step to verify it

    Step to Process:

To verify whether the rstatd daemon is already configured:

The rup command reports various machine statistics, including rstatd

configuration. Run the following command to view the machine statistics:

    >rup host

You can also use lr_host_monitor and see if it returns any relevant statistics.

If the command returns meaningful statistics, the rstatd daemon is already

configured and activated. If not, or if you receive an error message, the

    rstatd daemon is not configured.

    To configure the rstatd daemon:

1 Run the command: su root

2 Go to /etc/inetd.conf and look for the rstatd row (it begins with the word

rstatd). If it is commented out (with a #), remove the comment directive,

    and save the file.

3 From the command line, run:

    kill -1 inet_pid

where inet_pid is the pid of the inetd process. This instructs the inetd to

rescan the /etc/inetd.conf file and register all daemons which are

    uncommented, including the rstatd daemon.

    4 Run rup again.

If the command still does not indicate that the rstatd daemon is configured,

    contact your system administrator.

To add a machine to the Controller:

1 Click the UNIX Resources graph in the graph tree, and drag it into the right

    pane of the Run view.

2 Right-click the graph and select Add Measurements, or click anywhere on

the graph and choose Monitors > Add Measurements. The UNIX Resources

    dialog box opens.

In the Monitored Server Machines section, click Add. The Add Machine

    dialog box opens.

3 Enter the server name or IP address of the machine you want to monitor,

    and click OK.

4 In the Resource Measurements section of the UNIX Resources dialog box,

select the measurements you want to monitor.

For a description of the available measurements, see “UNIX Resources

    Performance Counters”

Than you can start adding counter in System resources,Similar you can add counter for SQL Server... Even you can follow what srinivas is advise you through perfmon adding counter and get  raw data and genrate the graph..

1.in above Comment you mention zero erro : This indicate may be the test is going fine or You many configure the server ip address properly..check with you admin team there can help you out.....

  • Hi Satish,

    Thanks for response!

Actually I want to monitor Jboss server which is installed on UNIX.

1.By selecting UNIX graph under System Resources ,Am I able to monitor JBoss server?

2.I am assuming Ssstem Resources is not right graph to monitor Jboss.Am I right?

3.I am assuming Load Runner doesn't support Jboss monitor.Am I right?

4.I have to go for Sitescope for Jboss Monitor.Am  I right?

    Thanks,

    Raj

  • Hi Satish,

Excellent Article and It was really helpful to me as well.

    BTW , i have a different problem .

I am able to see few unix monitors when i run tests from performance center 11 , but after the test execution these monitors are not getting added to my report.  Also PC11 is showing 10 counters only not more than that . As i have 16processor boxes  i am not able to get a full list of stats .

I am using these monitors via sitescope/UnixMonitors  under PC11

    Thanks,

    Sushant.
