QUESTION
----------------------------------

What files are created when you run one or more Testcases through SilkCentral Test Manager?

ANSWER
----------------------------------

SilkCentral Test Manager will display all files that are used and created by SilkTest, however this is a matter of choice for the user because you can eliminate any files that you don"t think would be relevant viewing after executing a Testcase via SilkCentral Test Manager.

This can be done in the Settings View, here you choose the extensions of the files that you would not like to view after the execution of a Testcase. The files with the files extensions you specify will then no longer be displayed.

By clicking on edit you will be able to add or remove the file extensions.

The files that are left can be found by going to the Activities section of SilkCentral Test Manager after the execution is complete, click on the Test Definition or the Execution Definition that has just been run. Click on the Files tab about half way down the next page and you will get a list of the files.

  • The compile log returns the compilation errors, if any, in the script that SilkTest finds.

  • The xxx.res is the results file that is created in SilkTest after running a script.

  • The xxx.rex is a file that is created by SilkTest to export the results and this is what SilkCentral Test Manager uses to pick them up.

  • The xxx.xml is the file used to create the xml plan file to run SilkTest Testcases.

  • The xxx.bmp is a bitmap created if your testcase fails while running against your application, it will show the last view from the application when the test failed. This can help in the debugging of scripts.
