Auto logout users after idle time in Silk Central

0 Likes

The default server session timeout in Silk Central 17.0 is 30 minutes. As long as the browser window is not closed, keep-alive requests are sent to the server. Any active user that has Silk Central opened in the browser will consume a license.

However, if you  have problems with users who leave their browser open without working in Silk Central, you can adopt the following approach.

Modify the KeepAlive interval

The sKeepAlive interval can be modified in the file <INSTALL_DIR>\<instance name>\wwwroot\silkroot\script\bca_script.js as shown below.

var sKeepAliveInterval = 0;

Additionally edit the function handleLoadEvent to look as shown below:

function handleLoadEvent(keepAliveUrl)
  {
updateLayout();
setFocus();
if (sKeepAliveInterval > 0)
    {
     window.setInterval("doKeepAlivePing('" keepAliveUrl "')",sKeepAliveInterval); }
}

If  set to 0 KeepAlive requests are disabled and only the server session timeout applies.

Modify the session timeout value

The server session timeout can be configured by adding a session-config section in
<INSTALL_DIR>\<instance name>\wwwroot\ROOT\WEB-INF\web.xml.

e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Silk\Silk Central 17.5\instance_1_silk\wwwroot\ROOT\WEB-INF\web.xml

Please refer to the highlighted section below:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"

xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd"
version="2.4">

  <session-config>
    <session-timeout>10</session-timeout>
  </session-config>

  <error-page>
     <error-code>404</error-code>

Based on these settings, if users remain idle for more than 10 minutes their license will be returned to the license pool.
