Problem:

What is the procedure to assign a Project to a new Location; e.g. to migrate from Development to a Production Server?

Resolution:

Projects in SilkCentral Test Manager are executed in specific Locations/ Servers.

Projects can be assigned to existing locations by editing the Location"s "Assigned Projects" list, in "Administration - Locations > Edit". If you need to create a new Location; any existing Projects can be assigned during the process of creating the new location, as follows:

Procedure to Add a New Location in SCTM and assign existing Projects to it.

i. In SilkCentral Test Manager access: "Administration > Locations". Click the "New Locations" button to open the "New Locations" dialog.


ii. Enter an name for the new Location.

iii. If you had specified a Proxy Server, select the "Use System Proxy" option by checking the respective check box.

iv. In the Location Proxy section, identify a proxy server through which the execution servers of this location will communicate with the application server.

a. Host field - enter the name of the computer hosting the proxy service.

b. Port field - enter the port number of the proxy host.

c. Username - optional. If Proxy service requires authentication, provide a username / password in these fields.

d. Password - optional.

v. Assigned Projects: this section includes a list of existing projects and allows you to select those that you want to assign and execute from this location/server.

vi. Click "Save" to add the new location. You will be returned to the Locations page where the new location is listed.
