What should I do if the database connection cannot be established after installation of SilkCentral Test Manager 8.0?

First of all, you should make sure that Microsoft SQL Server or MSDE has been installed. If you cannot see the SQL Server icon in the bottom right corner of your desktop beside the system time, then navigate from Windows Explorer to Program Files and you should see a folder called Microsoft SQL Server. If this doesn"t exist and you cannot see this icon on your desktop, then MSDE is not installed. We then recommend uninstalling SCTM 8.0 and re-install it using the Custom Install Option and making sure that the MSDE options were selected.

If you can see the Microsoft SQL Server folder but the icon has not appeared, it is most likely that the SQL Server has not been started. This is set up to start automatically from Start-Up, so therefore a reboot is the easiest option to start the service.

If you are still getting the error, "Database connection failed: Could not resolve DBMS hostname or IP address: "localhost" ". Under the section hostname in the Administration you should enter SEGUE\.

If you are still receiving the error for Database connection failed, then you should try to Telnet onto the server using Telnet on port 1433. If there is a connection issue here, it may be to do with a firewall installed which may need your IS department to create an exception in the firewall for communication over this port number.
