Problem:

Why can"t I assign Datareader and Datawriter rights to the user in SilkCentral TestManager 2006R2 or SilkCentral TestManager 2007?

Resolution:

In the unique case of SilkCentral TestManager 8.1 (SilkCentralTestManager 2006), the "datareader" and "datawriter" roles should be sufficient for normal operation of SilkCentral. However, whenever connecting the database after the installation of a new SilkCentral TestManager version, the role "db_ddladmin" is required in order to perform the schema updates. Ensure you connect as the same database user as was used in the original database creation. Furthermore, recent versions of SilkCentral TestManager require the role "db_ddladmin" even for common operations because tables are added on demand for some features.

Given this, we would strongly suggest that you assign the "db_ddladmin" role for the user to prevent having to tweak user rights before each SilkCentral TestManager upgrade and to prevent access rights problems in the future.
