In SilkCentral Test Manager 2008 why is a user with "read only" access not able to enter a Parameter when attempting to run reports?
In SilkCentral Test manager 2008 (and earlier), if a user has "read only" access, they will be unable to "Edit Parameters" when attempting to run reports. Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to SCTM | Administration | Users | Roles tab and Create a custom profile with "read only" access priviledges. Eg "Reporter Read Only". See below:
2. Go to SCTM Administration | Users | Accounts | New User, Create a "New user" and assign this role to the user in the Group and Role Assignments section.
3. Login as the new user and go to SCTM | Reports and choose a report that requires a parameter. Note that the "Edit Parameters" button is not enabled.
This is a known issue in Test manager 2008 (and earlier
versions). This is resolved in SilkCentral Test Manager 2008
R2 SP1.
The 2 options to resolve are:
Option 1:- Upgrade to SilkCentral Test Manager 2008 R2 SP1
(or higher)
OR
Option 2:- Edit the "Read Only" role and enable the user to "Manage Reports" and save (See below).
This will enable the user to select the "Edit Parameter" button as expected.
Please note that this will also enable the user to create, edit, and delete objects in all areas of Test Manager | Reports.
