How to create custom fields where a value must be entered by a user:

If you create a Custom Field and then ‘Edit Field Properties’, within this menu you can ensure that specific actions are carried out with this field. 

There are 3 options:

• Optional
• Required
• Read-Only

This means that the custom field requires a value or action, optional is for the user to enter a value or this is a read-only action.

When you select to edit the Custom Field specifying the action type, it is possible to select groups of users which this rule applies too. E.g if a specific group is required to enter a value and others are not:

It is also possible to access the Workflows adding the custom fieed to a specific state:

Select the Issue Type for example: BUG and State: Unreviewed, select one of the Actions

Select User-Defined Actions Fields and add the custom field.  This means that the field will be viewable and therefore if required a user can add information.
