Problem:

Why does error "Unable to locate file SCTM2008.msi" occur when re-installing SilkCentral Test Manager?

Resolution:

The following error occurs when the extracted installation files are moved from their original location when SilkCentral Test Manager (SCTM) was initially installed.

In order to be able to modify the current installation of SilkCentral Test Manager, move the extracted installation folder back to the original location that it was in when the initial install of SilkCentral Test Manager was conducted. If this is not possible, then completely remove the SilkCentral Test Manager installation and install again. Prior to uninstalling SilkCentral Test Manager, please follow the instructions in the SilkCentral Test Manager installation and configuration guide to perform a back up first before uninstalling the product.

Page 27 of this guide outlines necessary files that should be considered for backing up and to how to back-up the SilkCentral Test Manager database. It is also advisable to take a screenshot of the system settings page from TEST MANAGER | ADMINISTRATION | SYSTEM before performing the uninstall in order not to forget these settings:

  • DBMS hostname/IP address,
  • DBMS type,
  • Port,
  • Database name,
  • Username and password

Two things to keep in mind:
1) It is good practice to make a backup copy of your Test Manager repository (database) before you begin uninstalling or upgrade.
2) If you have made changes to any of the XML-based configuration files in your current installation’s /conf directory, or have added new files to this directory, you should make a backup copy of the /conf directory before proceeding.
