How do I create a New Issue in SilkCentral Issue Manager?

ANSWER
----------------------------------

Creating new issues

The Issues tab enables you to easily enter issues related to the selected test definition.

Procedure To enter a new issue:

  1. From Test Plan View, select the node of the test definition for which you wish to create a new issue.
  2. Select the Issues tab.
  3. Click the New Issue button to open the New Issue dialog.
  4. Select the profile of the issue-tracking system you wish to submit the issue to. The Profile drop-down list shows the internal (always available) and any external issue-tracking profiles that you may have created. Select Internal to save the issue only to the Test Manager database. Select an external profile to have the new issue saved to both the external tool and Test Manager. Note The profile you select here becomes the default selection for when you enter new issues in the future. Note: When adding a new issue to an external tracking system, you will be prompted to provide login credentials for the external system. The credentials that you provide will be automatically preselected for you in the future. If you do not provide credentials, the default credentials stored in the profile will be used.
  5. Enter a brief Synopsis of the issue.
  6. Enter a meaningful Description of the issue.
  7. Specify the status of the issue (Open, Fixed, Verified, Deferred, Closed). When using an external profile, status is set by the external tool.
  8. Specify the ExternID of the corresponding issue in the external issue-tracking profile. Note:The ExternID is the corresponding issue ID in the external tool. This option is disabled when you have specified an external issue-tracking profile because the external tool sets this value. When the Internal profile is selected, this value can be set manually.
  9. Specify the ExternLink of the issue-tracking profile. Note:The ExternLink is the HTTP link to the issue in the external tool. This option is disabled when you have specified an external issue-tracking profile because the external tool sets this value (when the tool offers direct HTTP links to issues, as is the case with Issue Manager). When a link is specified, the ExternID is shown as a link in the issue list. Note:Depending on the issue-tracking profile you are working with, the New Issue dialog may include other tracking fields that are specific to the external issue-tracking tool.
  10. Click Save to save the new issue. Note: Issue Manager determines the ID numbers of newly created issues.

Assigning external issues

The Issues tab enables you to assign issues in externally configured issue tracking systems to a selected test definition.
Procedure To assign an existing external issue:

  1. From Test Plan View, select the node of the test definition for which you wish to assign an external issue.
  2. Select the Issues tab.
  3. Click the Assign External Issue button to open the Assign External Issue dialog.
  4. Select the Profile of the pre-configured, external issue-tracking system where the issue is tracked.
  5. In the External ID field, manually enter the unique alpha-numeric ID of an existing issue in the external issue-tracking system.
  6. Click OK.

Synchronizing internal/external issue states

Procedure To synchronize issue states between Test Manager and an external issue tracking-system:

  1. From Test Plan View, select the node of the test definition for which you wish to update a corresponding external issue.
  2. Select the Issues tab.
  3. Click the Update states of external issues button to synchronize the state of the issues listed in Test Manager with the corresponding issues in the external tool.

Deleting issues

Procedure To delete an issue from the issue-tracking system:

  1. From Test Plan View, select the node of the test definition for which you wish to delete an issue.
  2. Select the Issues tab.
  3. Click the Delete icon of the issue you wish to delete.
  4. Click Yes on the Delete Issue dialog to confirm the deletion. Note:External issues are not affected when internal issues are deleted.
