Using the Democlient1-0 plugin for SilkCentral Test Manager

The sample Democlient1-0 plugin can be downloaded from the Borland downloads website

This plugin can be used as an example of how to use the SilkCentral Test Manager Test Planning Web Service, To use the demo client application:

  • Unzip the downloaded file and run democlient.cmd
  • Click “Accept” on the initial page
  • Enter the required details on the login dialog

  • Click Connect
  • Select the project from the “Choose project” dialog

  • Click OK
  • The application will then load the testplan tree from that project

Below are several errors that a user may encounter when using this client and possible methods to overcome such errors:

Getting “Connection refuse: connect”

Reason: This error would indicate that the client was able to find the specified host, but was unable see the SilkCentral Test Manager Service as running.

To overcome: restart the SilkCentral Test Manager services on the host and then try to connect again

Getting “UnknownHostException”

Reason: This error would indicate that the client has been unable to resolve the hostname that was specified

To overcome: ensure that the correct host name has been specified, ensure that the current machine can communicate with the SilkCentral Test Manager server, and ensure that the correct port is being referred to.

Getting “(404 Not Found)”

Reason: This error could occur if the incorrect port was specified for the instance of SilkCentral Test Manager

To overcome: specify the correct port usually 19120 if using Tomcat or 8080 if using IIS.

Getting “No Application Server destination defined”

Reason: This error could occur if the services has recently been restarted on the SilkCentral Test Manager machine.

To overcome: in order to use the democlient users should sign into SilkCentral Test Manager first after a server reboot or service restart – this ensures that all configurations required are done by SilkCentral Test Manager – such as defining the application server.

Getting “SccAuthentication not initialized yet”

Reason: This error can be flagged if the server or services has recently been restarted and are not fully started yet or there was a problem.

To overcome: restart the SilkCentral Test Manager services and ensure that all services are started before running the democlient.
