Problem:

How can I create a hierarchy in MS Excel using "Group and Outline" when importing Requirements using the Office Import Tool?

Resolution:

The Office Import Tool enables you to import requirements and manual tests from Microsoft Word or Excel into Test Manager. This article will show how to create a tree structure for requirements in MS Excel using Data | Group and Outline

In Microsoft Excel, Data | Group and Outline has the following options to set up your hierarchy:

- Group - will create your particular tree/group
- Ungroup - will remove the selected tree/group. You can ungroup sections of the outline without removing the entire outline. Hold down SHIFT while you click the or - for the group, then point to Group and Outline on the Data menu and click Ungroup.
- Clear outline - will remove all groupings

More information on Grouping can be retrieved from MS Excel help.

- To create the above tree structure in Test Manager, please see the Excel doc below which contains the necessary groupings (Also attached). You can use this as a basis to create your own custom hierarchy and import this into Test Manager.
