My server just stopped running, the service crashed, or stopped responding.
The StarTeam Server randomly stops responding , locks up, the service crashes, or stops accepting connections from customers. The software and hardware is up-to-date, but this happens under heavy load or at busy times of the day and happens a few times a week. The server log does not show a clean shutdown, nor does it show any errors.
These types of lockups or shutdowns are usually attributed to memory issues within the StarTeam machine. A 32-bit process in Windows can only use 2 GB without some special tweaking. In order to get StarTeam to use memory greater than 2GB, 4GT Ram Tuning is necessary. Please refer to KB article 3921 for more information.
The Microsoft knowledgebase also provides this article to explain more about 4GT RAM Tuning from a technical aspect.
In conjunction with 4GT Ram Tuning, the StarTeam administrator also needs to set component caching to 0 in the StarTeam-server-configs.xml file. This is also explained in the Memory Management KB article.
