Problem:

Is it possible to change the machine name or email address that the StarTeam Server uses in email notifications?

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: All
  • Product Component: Notifications
  • Platform/OS Version: N/A

When an error is raised a notification is sent out to people specified to received notifications as per the server group settings and notifications. The default "From" address that the server sends out in the e-mails is "StarTeam Server on ".

Some mail servers however have settings that block or remove invalid email addresses, therefore the email address might need to be changed to a valid format e.g. user@yourcompany.com. Alternatively you may wish to just change the server name to something more descriptive.

To make this change:

  1. Shutdown StarTeam Server
  2. Browse to "C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam Server 2008 R2\Locale\en3.xml file"
  3. Right click and select to open in a text editor of choice
  4. Locate the section for the custom message, and change the entire text or just the ??1?? to an email address or some other text

In this example we have edited en3.xml and located the following entry:

Error StarTeam Server on ??1??

This is the message sent to users when an IDS exception occurs in the Server. Here we substitute the message subject with an email address.

StarTeamAdmin@MyCompany.com

Here we substitute the message subject with another server name:

Error StarTeam Server on Lab41_Server

Or you can change the actual email address that the message displays:

StarTeamAdmin@MyCompany.com

Please contact Borland Support if you need assistance with this.
