What is the best way to rename files and folders that TrackRecord uses?
TrackRecord uses the DOS 8.3 naming conventions to find folders. Because DOS 8.3 examines the first eight characters and the extension, renaming folders may produce unexpected results. For example, when TrackRecord accesses the Databases folder, it searches for a folder named Databa~1. If you rename the Databases folder to Databases_OLD, TrackRecord will still continue to access that folder because Database_OLD appears as Databa~1 to TrackRecord. Therefore, when renaming folders, choose a name that is completely different. If you wish to use the word OLD to designate the Databases folder as in the example, append it to the front of the name (so it reads as OLD_Databases). You could also safely rename the file extension to *.OLD.
Note: Although you cannot rename the parent folder, Databases, you can safely rename the subfolders and databases themselves.
