Problem:

When trying to use the StarTeam command line report the following error "Sun1.4.2_01" is an unrecognized Java VM name"

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2005 R2
  • Product Component: CMD/STCMD
  • Platform/OS Version: Linux
  • JDK/Compiler Version: All

    Question:
    Why does the StarTeam command line (stcmd.exe) report the following error "Sun1.4.2_01" is an unrecognized Java VM name"?

    Answer:
    The reason for the error: "Sun1.4.2_01" is an unrecognized Java VM name" is usually due to the StarTeam SDK not being installed correctly or can not find the correct java version on your system.

    To fix this problem please try the either suggestion below:
    - Edit the setup.ini file, this is responsible for telling the client which Java SDK to use. This can be found in Docs and Settings folder for named user.

    Example: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Borland\StarTeam

    - Edit the StarTeamCP.stjava file to point to a different JVM. This file is located at C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam Cross-Platform Client 2005 R2

    Example:
    [Java VM]
    name=Sun1.5.0_03
