Problem:

What causes the error in the Cache Agent log, "Cache Journal: Journal file format uses an unexpected version"?

Resolution:

• Product Name: StarTeam
• Product Version: 2008
• Product Component: MPX Cache Agent
• Platform/OS Version: All

When the MPX Cache Agent fails to start the MPX Cache Agent log file will actually report something similar to:

001 Cache Journal: Journal file format uses an unexpected version: 1; file must be converted to expected version: 2.

002 Failed to initialize journal file: Journal file format uses an unexpected version: 1; file must be converted to expected version: 2.

003 Cache Agent start failed. 

This happens when attempting to start a 2008 Cache Agent against an earlier version of StarTeam Server such as StarTeam Server 2006.

To resolve this either:

• Upgrade your server to StarTeam 2008 to match the version of the MPX Cache Agent
  
• Install MPX Cache Agent 2006 (to match your version of the StarTeam Server)

It is also recommended that you use the MPX Message Broker that also matches the version of your StarTeam Server.
