Problem:

Microsoft VSS encapsulation not automatically updating in StarTeam

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 6.0 or above
  • Product Component: PVCS/VSS Wrap
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows 2000 Server

Description:

StarTeam projects were wrapped around Visual SourceSafe (VSS) projects. After the wrapping process was done, VSS repository was changed, but the current directory tree in VSS does not match with the StarTeam wrap directory tree. Does StarTeam automatically updates its directory structure as the VSS directory structure changes or not?

Answer/Solution:

For the process of wrapping StarTeam projects around VSS projects, please read the following,

- StarTeam wraps itself around the specified VSS project and its subprojects.

- It recursively creates working folders for each VSS project beneath the project
selected as the root.

- To create working paths for each of these folders, StarTeam
starts with the path to the working folder for the root folder and appends folders for
each level in the hierarchy, using the subproject names.

- However, StarTeam does not support user-specified working folder paths except at
the view level, which may make some or all of the VSS working folders obsolete.

If there are no user-specified working folder paths except at the view level, StarTeam automatically creates working folders for each VSS project beneath the project selected as the root.
