Problem:

When items are linked, such as a File to Change Request, the Link tab entries appear incorrect. When looking at the link from the Change Request tab, it would appear that the “Item Details” column refers to the Revision Comment of the file revsion. However, this does not seem to change regardless of the revision the change request is linked to.

Resolution:

When looking at the link from the Change Request tab, it would appear that the “Item Details” column refers to the Revision Comment of the file revsion. However, this does not seem to change regardless of the revision the change request is linked to.

For example, the item may be pinned / linked to revision 1.3 (dot notation), but the ‘Item Details’ shows comment from initial revision.

This link refers to revision 1.3, so why is the comment for file revision 1.0 being shown?

The "Item Details" field does not correlate to the "Comment" field of the file revisions.  It actually refers to the "Description" field, which is accessible by right-click and select 'Properties' of the file on the 'General' tab.

Conversly, when looking at the link with the file as the source i.e. pointing to the CR, the link "Item Details" shows the "Synopsis" of the Change Request.

When a 'new' file is checked in and an initial comment is entered, this is actually stored in two places; first as a 'Comment', as expected, but also in the 'Description' field.

Subsequent check-ins will create a new 'Comment' for the revision checked-in, but will not update the 'Description' field. This has to be done manually, and changes to this field will also create a new revision when OK is pressed.

Additionally, the "Comment" field in the Link tab entry is only for the Link entry itself and is not related to the File check-in "Comment". Again, right-click the link, and select 'Link Properties'.
