Problem:

Could NOT read file "C:\Borland\BLS4\db\LM_REPORTING.jds". Database version 0.0 cannot be opened by BRE version 2. (201,3)

Resolution:

  • Product Name: BRE
  • Product Version: 2.0
  • Product Component: BLS Reporting Engine
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows XP

Description:
When I am trying to open StarTeam BLS database file LM_REPORTING.jds with BRE (BLS Reporting Engine), I am getting following errors.

Could NOT read file "C:\Borland\BLS4\db\LM_REPORTING.jds". Database version 0.0 cannot be opened by BRE version 2. (201,3)

Could NOT read file "C:\Borland\BLS4\db\LM_REPORTING.jds". Database operation failed. (101,10)

Answer/Solution:

This could be because BRE is trying to open a data that is not in BRE-compatible format. To avoid the issue, follow the below steps...

- Export reporting data to a BRE-compatible format using BLS command-line interface. Example… belise cmd exportLogs ( -dir ) ( -db )
- In BRE, using the BRE File Menu, create a new BRE database
- Now import the data which was exported in step 1 ( File --- Import Reporting Log)

Reports can now be generated through the main BRE Reports menu. This menu item is disabled if there are no BRE databases currently open. If you need further assistance, please refer to bre_help.html file in C:\Borland\BRE2\help.
