Information in this Brief applies to:

  • Eclipse Client 5.3 & 6
  • Supported versions of Eclipse (2.1.3, 2.1.2, & 3.0.0) and WSAD (5.1.2)

Overview

Performance for the Eclipse Client can be improved by increasing the memory allocation for java used by Eclipse/WSAD. The default memory allocation for Eclipse/WSAD is only 64MB.

Details

For WASD:

The setting is found by default in the file wsappdev.ini found in the folder:

C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere Studio

The setting is:

VMArgs=-Xms64M

Change "64" to "256" or "512"

For Eclipse:

To the start command, change "eclipse -vmargs -Xmx64M" to something like "eclipse -vmargs -Xmx512M" or another suitable amount of memory that you you want to allocate to the application.
