TrackRecord License Error: Not a valid hostname


The first thing to do in this situation is to verify that the service is pointing to the correct license file. If you run regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm License Manager\FLEXlm License Server you should see a variable called License that points to a license file. Please verify that this file exists in the directory given. In this file there is a line that starts with the word SERVER. This line does not have a # comment in front of it. Verify that the first word after SERVER is the correct name of the machine that the license server is installed on. If not, change it. Please be sure not to change anything else in the file as it could invalidate your license. If everything appears to be correct in these two places, try running the license server in console application mode by following these steps:

1. Open a command prompt and go to the directory where the license server is installed. (C:\Program Files\Compuware\License by default)

2. Enter the command LMGRD -app -c "C:\Program Files\Compuware\License\License.dat" where the path and filename is what is listed in the registry as described above.

If the license server starts up correctly, you will see output similar to the following:

(lmgrd) FLEXlm (v5.12a) started on XXX (IBM PC) (4/6/2000)

(lmgrd) FLEXlm Copyright 1988-1996, Globetrotter Software, Inc.

(lmgrd) World Wide Web:

(lmgrd) License file: "C:\Program Files\Compuware\License\License.dat"

(lmgrd) Starting vendor daemons ...

(lmgrd) Started compuware (internet tcp_port 0 pid 192)

(compuware) Server started on XXX for: 941 942

and the command prompt you were using will now be "locked" for use by the license server.

If you receive an error similar to this:

(lmgrd) "FOO": Not a valid server hostname, exiting.

(lmgrd) Valid server hosts are: "BAR"

(lmgrd) Using license file "C:\Program Files\Compuware\License\License.dat"

Then the SERVER line of the listed license file is not correct. Change it and try again.

If you receive an error similar to this:

(compuware) Wrong hostid, exiting (expected 123456789123, got 00b0d02c0ed6)

Then the license was generated for another computer. If you need to run the license server on this machine, you will need to contact your sales person or World Wide License Management at 1-800-538-7822 to get a new license issued.

If you receive an error similar to this:

(compuware) Invalid license key (inconsistent encryption code for "941")

(compuware) Invalid license key (inconsistent encryption code for "942")

This means that the license has been modified in a way that is not allowed. You will have to delete it and use the original license. Please note that nothing the application does will invalidate a license. It can only be changed by an actual user on your computer.
