Problem:

Opening project hangs at Loading Custom Toolbars dialog.

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2006, 2006 R2, 2008
  • Product Component: StarTeam Client
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows XP

Description:
Using the StarTeam 2006 R2 client, the program would hang at the "Loading Custom toolbars" phase of project loading and never returns control. This happens more often to users who connect via VPN.

Answer/Solution:

This issue has been resolved in later patches of the 2008 client, so if your organization is experiencing this issue with the 2006 R2 client, it would be a good idea to try the 2008 CPC and see if it resolves your problem.

If using the newer CPC is not possible due to corporate software policies, then below is a viable workaround to correct the toolbar loading issue.

Open the StarTeamCP.stjava file on the user"s PC and look at the memory settings.

[StJava]
.starbase.starteam.gui.Main
starteam=9.3
test=0
[Java VM]
name=Sun1.5.0_09
classpath=starteam-gui.jar;%CLASSPATH%
librarypath=%LIBRARYPATH%;C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam Cross-Platform Client 2006 R2
options=-Xmx512m

Most likely, the settings will look like what is listed above. Change the memory settings in the last line. Increase it by two times if the PC has enough memory:

options=-Xmx1024m

If this does not resolve the problem, another option is available if the user is accessing the project with MPX enabled. Go into the Personal Optiolns for that client and turn MPX off. This should allow the user to access and open the project. If MPX is necessary in the user"s environment, then please contact Technical Support if turning MPX off resolves the issue.
