NullPointerException when launching a Custom APE

Problem:

NullPointerException when launching a Custom APE

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2006
  • Product Component: Client (CPC)
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows XP

Description:

When launching a custom Alternate Property Editor (APE), the client returns a NullPointerException.

Answer/Solution:

The typical scenario that would cause this is an illegal character in the Project, View, or Folder name where you launch the custom form. It is known that the # character will sometimes throw this error if it a part of the Project, View, or Folder name. For example, if your Project is named "Break APE #" you should get a NullPointerException when launching a custom form from within this project.

The workaround is to rename Projects, Views, and Folders with special characters by removing the special characters.
