Problem:

I am getting "Unable to reconnect to the server. The timeout has expired for this session" error message - what does it mean?

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: All
  • Product Component: All
  • Platform/OS Version: All

Description:

What does the following error message mean?

"Unable to reconnect to the server. The timeout has expired for this session"

Answer/Solution:

1) "Unable to reconnect to the server. The timeout has expired for this session"

This error is usually generated when the actual network connection from the StarTeam client is lost. This is not usually due to inactivity on the client part, but users are disconnected from the StarTeam server.

When this happens, the client has a certain amount of time to try and re-establish this connection. If StarTeam can reconnect, the user should not have to logon again, they should be able to simply continue working.

Note: If the StarTeam server is rebooted, the client will not be able to re-establish this connection.

The setting for this is found in the StarTeam server administration tool, select;

Configure Server | General tab

and check the "Reconnect Timeout" option.

If users are having difficulty in maintaining a network connection to StarTeam, try increasing this option, but ensure that this value is greater than the "Inactivity Timeout" option, or the user may be logged off before the client can re-establish the connection.
