Exchanging data with other TrackRecord users

Problem:

How do I exchange data with other TrackRecord users?

Resolution:

If you are not on a network, you can share your local TrackRecord database's contents by using TrackRecord's Import and Export functions. Data is exported to a file, and the other user (or users) can import the file into their database.

To export information to a file for another TrackRecord user:

  1. Select Export from the Administrator menu.
  2. Select Export > Database.
  3. Select either Entire Database or choose a query from the list box. If you choose a query, all items that are matched by that query will be exported, including items contained as fields within those items.
  4. Enter the name of the export file.
  5. Click OK.

To import a TrackRecord exchange file:

  1. Select Import from the Administrator menu.
  2. Select Import > Database.
  3. Choose the file to import by clicking the Data File button.
  4. Select Discard imported duplicates to preserve the information in the database if some of the same items are found in the database and the import file. Select Overwrite database items to preserve the duplicated items in the import file, rather than the items in the database.
  5. Click OK.
