Problem:

Does StarTeam use Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) format?

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2006, 2006R2, 2008
  • Product Component: Server
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows

StarTeam Server stores time stamps in UTC formats. It can be shown by referring to the server log.

Depending on the timezone that set, there will be different UTC adjustments shown. For example, If the region timezone is set to GMT 8 (Kuala Lumpur,Singapore) the server log it will look like:

00000001 2008-12-05 09:06:29 Time Zone UTC 8.00

In the Cross-Platform Client when referring to the timestamp in the "Modified Time" field, the GMT timezone offset has been applied, so it will show your local machine system time.

UTC_modify_time

When using DataMart the extracted data will also reflect the local time.

It is worth noting however that the StarTeam SDK by default extracts the UTC time and not the local time.
