Answer/Solution:
There are a few things to look at and try. First, try selecting the file(s) in unknown status, right-click, select "Update Status". Second, go to Tools -> Personal Options... -> File tab -> Repository: section. Select the "Per folder" option for File status repository default:. This is especially important if the user is sharing the working directory with other users. If neither of these work, go to the folder in your working directory, copy the files to another location, force checkout the files in unknowns status from the client, replace these checked out files with the files you copied out of the working directory earlier, and refresh the client. The files should now be in their proper statuses.
