Why do I get the following error: " "XMLGateway.dll" has not been properly installed" whilst trying to run StarTeam web edition?

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2005R2 - 2008
  • Product Component: Web Edition
  • Platform/OS Version: All

Answer:

This error can occur for a number or reasons depending on the version of the web edition that you are trying to install.

If you are using StarTeam 2005R2 web edition please ensure that you apply patch 2. Patch 2 includes a DLL fix to prevent this error from occurring. Please contact Borland technical support for Patch 2 for StarTeam Web Edition 2005 Release 2 (Build 8.0.009).

Using StarTeam web edition versions 2006 and 2008 the problem might occur for the following reasons:

  • A left over INI file that causes the SDK to look for the incorrect DLL files therefore preventing the web edition from working. To fix browse to C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam Web Edition\Web Application and delete the file called sdkapp.ini , restart IIS or reboot the PC and Web Edition should function correctly.
  • You might need to manually resister the Dll in question. This can be done using the RegSvr 32 command shown below

    StarTeam 2006 web edition:
    START | Run | regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam Web Edition\XMLGateway290.dll"

    StarTeam 2008 web edition:
    START | Run | regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam Web Edition\XMLGateway2100.dll"
  • In some instances the actual XMLGateway290.dll or XMLGateway2100.dll does not get installed and registered. To check this browse to C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam Web Edition and if the file does not reside here please re-install and reboot your machine.
