How to resolve Unknown file status when multiple operating systems are in use

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2006, 2006 R2, 2008 , 2008 R2 , 2009
  • Product Component: CPC
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows XP

Description:
A customer that has varied operating systems in use at a site is experiencing issues with files displaying Unknown statuses. They do not use Per Folder and force check-in does not work.

Answer/Solution:
The issue in this case is the EOL conversion that is being performed by StarTeam. What we have discovered is that when telling StarTeam to perform the EOL conversions on check in and check out, it is conflicting with the EOL conversions that are being performed by most text editors or IDEs that are in use. If the application that is using the file is performing an EOL conversion, then StarTeam performs an EOL conversion, it is throwing off the file information in StarTeam and causing it to become "confused" about what file is what.

The easiest way around this issue is...if you are using pre-2009 CPC clients, go to Personal Options and check the option to “Automatic EOL conversion (CR-LF) for add/check-in operation” and also check another option “Automatic EOL conversion for check-out operation” and select the radio box appropriate to your platform. Once this is done, check-out the file and then force check-in.

For 2009 CPC, check the option “Automatic EOL conversion for check-out operation” and select the radio box appropriate to your platform. Once this is done, check-out the file and then force check-in.
