Problem:

How do I manually uninstall the StarTeam client?

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2005 and newer
  • Product Component: Client (Win32 and Cross-Platform)
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows (ALL)

Question:

When attempting to uninstall the StarTeam client the uninstall wizard hangs on the "Preparing..." stage. Is there any way to uninstall the client manually?

Answer:

  1. Delete the StarTeam Client installation directory. The installation directory is usually: C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam Cross-Platform Client XX.0
  2. Delete the corresponding registry key:
    1. Run "regedit"
    2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Borland\StarTeam Cross-Platform Client\XX.0
  3. Remove the Client entry from the Add/Remove programs menu. On Windows XP, if you try to uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs menu at this point, it will prompt you to remove the item from the list because the corresponding program is missing. For other Windows versions, use any registry cleaner.
  4. You can delete the folder C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Borland\StarTeam if desired but this is not necessary

Please note that 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2009R2 are referred to as 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 11.0 and 11.5 in the registry. You may also try to silently uninstall. Refer to KB 14674.
