Description:

How to start and run the Borland Search Server?

Answer/Solution:

First you need the full Java Development Kit (JDK) installed, not just the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Host server must have JAVA_HOME environment variable set for Tomcat to start properly. The JAVA_HOME variable should be set to the directory into which you installed your JDK.

Next go to directory where Borland Search Server is installed, the default is at location
C:\Program Files\Borland\Borland Searchin>

In this directory, you should see an startup.bat file.

Type startup.bat in the command prompt as follows: Again, the following is for my location

C:\Program Files\Borland\Borland Searchin>startup
Using CATALINA_BASE: ..
Using CATALINA_HOME: ..
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: .. emp
Using JAVA_HOME: C:j2sdk1.4.2_04

This will start-up Tomcat. If Tomcat does not start, then it will throw some exceptions -- please check the port number for the issue.
