Why do I get an error stating that I must change the NLS_LANG setting when attempting to start StarTeam configuration ?

  • Product Component: Client
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows

This error is caused by having an incorrect NLS_LANG language setting. The StarTeam Server will only work if this is set to AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252.

Incorrect NLS_LANG setting

To correct this, please do the following:

  1. Open the Windows Registry editor, click START | RUN | Enter "regedit"
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\
    (the entry depends on your Oracle setup)
  3. Double-click the NLS_LANG key,
  4. Change the contents to AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
  5. Click "OK"
  6. Close Windows Registry Editor
  7. Rstart the StarTeam configuration.

Note:
This resolution involves editing the Windows Registry. Please do not attempt this if you are not an Administrator or you are not confident in editing the registry. Incorrect changes can cause failure in both Windows and StarTeam.
