Problem:

Msg = Timeout expired appears in the Server Log and as an error on the CPC Client

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2008
  • Product Component: Server
  • Platform/OS Version: All Supported OS

Description:

The following error appears in the server log and is echoed on the client side while performing lengthy operations in StarTeam including but not limited to changing views, pushing the All Descendants button, and VCM sessions.

49 00000004 2008-03-05 07:18:19 Exception thrown from Unknown: Class = CDBException, Code = 4294967295(0xffffffff)
Msg = Timeout expired

[ODBC Error] = State:S1T00,Native:0,Origin:[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]

Answer/Solution:

This happens when the database takes too long to send back a reply to a query sent to it by the StarTeam Server. When the request times out, the Timeout Expired error will appear in the server log, and also echo on the Client. The best way to fix this is to schedule downtime for the StarTeam server and run the stored procedure "rebuild_starteam_indexes."

EXEC dbo.rebuild_starteam_indexes;

This shouldn"t take too long, at most a few hours. If it takes too long to run or running this Stored Procedure doesn"t resolve the timeout issue, please report the issue to Borland Support.
