What causes StarTeam to fail during the, "Refreshing local folders" phase of opening a project?

Resolution:


  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2005 - 2009
  • Product Component: Database
  • Platform/OS Version: ALL

This can be caused by folders in the project having a non-existant or unreachable network share set as the default working folder path. To find out the paths that folders are using run follow teh steps below,

  1. Shutdown the StarTeam Server
  2. Create a full backup of the StarTeam database
  3. Run the query below against the database


    SELECT Name,Workingfolder
    FROM syn_Folder
    WHERE WorkingFolder Like "%\\%"

  4. This will return rows for all folders which have a UNC network path as their location
  5. From the StarTeam Server machine attempt to access these paths in order to detect those that are unreachable
  6. Re-establish any unreachable network paths before starting StarTeam Server
  7. If the path cannot be re-established then update the "WorkingFolder" in the database to point to a new location
  8. Start the StarTeam Server
