How do I get rid of my references to Native-I or Foreign Archives found in the Database

Resolution:

  • Product name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2005 R2, 2006
  • Product Component: Server
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows 2000, Windows 2003

Description:
If there are ANY references to Native-I or Foreign Archives found in the database the upgrade process for StarTeam Server 2006 will automatically stop. How do I get rid of my references to Native-1 or Foreign Archives found in the Database?

Answer/Solution:

IMPORTANT:
You MUST convert the Native-I Vault to a Native-II Vault before upgrading to 2008 this can be done on the StarTeam 2005 and StarTeam 2005R2

To get rid of the Native-I or Foreign Archives references do the following:

Run purge from the command line - to remove data about deleted projects and views from DB and Archives

  • Syntax: StarTeamPurge "My Server Configuration"
  • Must be ran from the Server"s Installation folder
  • Now you can proceed with your 2008 Upgrade

Run Report Archives - packaged with the 2005 & 2005R2 Vault Verify Tool
Click StarTeam VaultVerifier & ReportArchivesTool to download Vault Verify

  • Navigate to the VaultVerify folder using DOS command
  • Type: ReportArchives.bat "My Server Configuration"
  • All parameters, except the configuration name, have default values that must be passed
    • (see starteam-server-configs.xml for values)
  • Password for -dbpassword parameter must be provided if not blank
    • i.e. - ReportArchives.bat -dbpassword foo StarDraw
  • Run report archives again with the -ForceNAtive2 option
    • Server must be shutdown for this to run
  • Answers all the questions about the unconverted files
  • The entries for these files will be altered in the DB
  • Run report archives again with the -ForceNAtive2 option
    • To ensure no references are present

Proceed with your 2008 Upgrade (See StarTeam 2008 Upgrade Guide)

The altered files will not be accessible once you upgrade

Note: Replace "My Server Configuration" with the name of yours
Note: Quotes are only needed if there are spaces in the "Server_Configuration" name
