Users can have either fixed or floating licenses. A fixed license, sometimes called a named user license, can be used only by the user who has been assigned that license. For example, if you have 5 fixed licenses and 25 floating licenses, the five users who receive the fixed licenses are guaranteed access to the server. No one else can use their licenses. A floating license, sometimes called a concurrent license, can be used by any user who does not have a fixed license. For example, users without fixed licenses receive floating licenses on a first-come, first-served basis. After all the floating licenses are in use, users attempting to log on are notified that there are no more licenses available at this time. They can try again later. Details When you register your server, you enter one or two serial numbers: one for fixed licenses and/or one for floating licenses. (The licenses also indicate what components and features the server can provide for users.) If you have fixed licenses you must assign them to specific users. First you must add or import those users. See "Adding Users" and "Importing Users" in the Administrator"s Guide for more details. The StarTeam Server Administrator is automatically assigned a fixed license which cannot be removed. This license is not included in the number of fixed licenses you have available. It is a "free" license. Tip: The User Manager dialog has a status bar that indicates how many of each type of license is in use. To assign a fixed license: 1. Display the Server Administration dialog by doing one of the following:
  • From StarTeam, select Tools\Server Administration from the menu bar.
  • On the computer where StarTeam Server is installed, select Start\Programs\StarTeam Server x.x\Server Administration from the Windows taskbar.
2. Select the server configuration you want to work with from the left pane. 3. Click User Manager. After you log on or if you are logged on already, the User Manager dialog appears. 4. Locate the user to whom a fixed license will be assigned. You may need to select a particular group or select the Show Users In All Descendant Groups check box. 5. Do one of the following:
  • In the StarTeam Windows client:
a. Right-click the name of the user to display a pop-up menu. b. Select Add Fixed License.
  • In the StarTeam Cross-Platform Client:
a. Select the user. b. Select User\Add Fixed License from the menu bar.
7646a.jpg An anchor appears before the name of the user. To remove a fixed license: 1. From the User Manager dialog, select a user. 2. Select Remove Fixed License from the pop-up menu or menu bar.
