Moving StarTeam to a new machine, and it will not start

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2005, 2005 Rel2, 2006
  • Product Component: N/A
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows 2000/2003 Server

Trying to setup a test server, for example. Did a restore from backup of the production machine. Everything seemsgood except when the server is started, it errors out with a message in the server log:
Msg = The hive path is invalid. [E:\StarTeam\DefaultHive\] .

The errors can be corrected by going into the Hive Manager, highlighting the hive in question, and clicking on Properties. You can then enter the correct paths for your Archive and Cache.

After you "OK" that, try to start the server again.

It should start this time, or at least get you past this particular error.

If it does not, then you will need to go into the database, edit the S0 table and change all the E:\StarTeam\DefaultHive\ fields to D:\. It"s not recommended that you do this without trying the other way first, and if this was the production database, you should NEVER do this because it could void any warranties and contracts if anything breaks. This is basically a "last resort" fix, and since it is a test server, it is okay to take this step.

Always make sure you have a backup.
