The StarTeam Web Server fails to start and throws the following error in the catalina.log:

"SEVERE: Socket accept failed"

The following error may also be reported simultaneously in the BorlandStarTeam.log:

"SEVERE:  org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext:listenerStart"

Both logs are located in the StarTeam Web Server's log folder.


These errors can occur when the StarTeam SDK files have not been correctly installed in the Apache Tomcat directory. Apache Tomcat is the web server that the StarTeam Web Server runs on and if the required files are missing it will not be able to initialize the StarTeam Web Server. To check if this is the case: 

- Browse to C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam 2009 Web Server\apache-tomcat-5.5.27\shared\lib 
- Check that all the files here match all the files located at C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam SDK 11.0\lib
- Copy any missing files from the SDK folder to the apache-tomcat-5.5.27\shared\lib folder

The SDK version and Tomcat version may differ from the version shown above based on the version of StarTeam you have installed.

Once this is done, attempt to start the StarTeam Web Server again. If you continue to have problems contact Micro Focus SupportLine.
